TransNusa Airlines Brings Jakarta Closer To Lombok
TransNusa Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Bernard Francis announced on April 2 the commencement of direct scheduled service between Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Lombok International Airport, effective April 17, 2026. The carrier will initially operate two daily round-trip frequencies, with flight 8B 5161 departing Jakarta at 5:00am and arriving in Lombok at 8:00am, and the return service 8B 5162 departing Lombok at 8:30am. The afternoon pair, flights 8B 5165 and 8B 5166, departs Jakarta at 3:00pm, arriving in Lombok at 5:45pm, with the return departing Lombok at 6:15pm.
Ticket prices for the new route start from IDR 899,000, equivalent to approximately USD 55, SGD 69, MYR 225, or AUD 80 depending on the currency of purchase. Bookings are available through TransNusa’s website and primary online travel agent platforms. The carrier’s three service tiers, SEAT, SEAT-PLUS, and FLEXI-PRO, offer progressively expanded benefits: SEAT passengers receive 20 kilograms of checked baggage, while FLEXI-PRO passengers receive up to 30 kilograms alongside complimentary seat selection, meals, beverages, and priority check-in and boarding, as well as flexible rescheduling and refund options.
Lombok And The West Nusa Tenggara Tourism Context
Datuk Francis described Lombok as the primary gateway for tourism in the West Nusa Tenggara province. The island’s attractions include the Gili Islands, widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s principal dive destinations, and Mount Rinjani National Park, an active volcanic landscape offering multi-day trekking routes. The island also holds a growing international profile as a surfing destination, drawing visitors year-round to its consistent reef breaks and beaches.
TransNusa’s decision to open the Jakarta to Lombok route aligns with Indonesia’s broader push to develop tourism destinations beyond the established Bali corridor, channeling demand into adjacent island provinces where infrastructure investment has been expanding. Lombok International Airport has operated as a modern gateway since 2011 and is classified as a Category 1 International Airport by the Indonesian government.
TransNusa’s Expanding Domestic And Regional Network
TransNusa, which holds its AOC certification from September 9, 2022, has grown its network to 19 scheduled routes as of late 2025 and now serves international points including Singapore, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Perth, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. The carrier positions itself as a Premium Service Carrier, a designation it introduced in 2023 as the first airline in the Asia-Pacific region to formally adopt that commercial model. Simultaneously with the Lombok announcement, TransNusa confirmed an additional daily frequency on the Jakarta to Yogyakarta route, also effective April 17, as well as plans to increase Jakarta to Singapore frequencies from the same date and Bali to Singapore frequencies from May 2, 2026.
The A320 aircraft deployed on the Lombok route are configured with 174 seats, with the carrier noting that its seat pitch is comparable to full-service airline standards, a distinction it uses to differentiate the Premium Service Carrier positioning from conventional low-cost operations.
