The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Albay province processed 17,842 voter registration applications from April 1 to May 16 across three cities and 15 towns, an official said Monday.
In a radio interview, Comelec Albay election supervisor Maria Aurea Bo-Bunao said the registration is part of preparations for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) set on Nov. 2.
She noted that the figure includes new registrations, transfers, corrections to entries, status updates, and reactivations for both regular voters and SK applicants.
“There were 5,983 new registrations for SK applicants; of these, 3,014 were male, and 2,969 were female,” Bo-Bunao, a lawyer, said.
For regular voters, at least 11,859 were registered; 5,804 of whom are male, while 6,055 are female.
Among the local government units (LGUs), Tabaco City recorded the highest number of applicants with 2,803, followed by Legazpi City (2,765) and Oas town (1,544).
Bo-Bunao added that at least 38,000 voters have been deactivated for failing to vote in two consecutive elections.
“There are also instances where a voter transfers and registers as a new registrant in the new place where they are residing. We will delete the other one,” she said.
She encouraged the public to take advantage of the last day of voter registration, which is today, May 18, to participate in the BSKE. (PNA)
