At least 1,676 fisherfolk from this city received food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under the food-for-work program.
In an interview on Wednesday, Legazpi City Mayor Hisham Ismail said the beneficiaries were from the city’s 13 coastal and southern barangays.
“This program aims to strengthen the preparedness of our fisherfolk against calamities while ensuring that every family has enough food,” Ismael said, referring to the food pack distribution that took place on Tuesday.
In a separate interview, Bremer Dematera Romero, secretary of Barangay Baybay said at least 70 fisherfolk from their village benefited from the program.
“We are thankful for the program. The assistance provided food for the family,” he said.
Romero added that, aside from the assistance they received, the beneficiaries also helped clean the coastal areas.
The DSWD food-for-work program supports disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness through community projects. (PNA)
