The weather was not the only thing intense in Houston last June 15th. Kalayaan Houston 2024 likewise turned up the excitement with an all-day celebration leading up to the highly anticipated TFC30 Happy Hour, headlined by Gary Valenciano and his son, Gab Valenciano, at the Fort Bend County Epicenter, marking the first Filipino event at the newly opened 230,000 square-foot arena.

Organized by Philippine Kalayaan Houston, in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General of Houston, this festival celebrated the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood with style and much energy. From 12:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., attendees were treated to a colorful mix of cultural performances, family-friendly activities, and delicious food.

The event kicked off with a lively atmosphere filled with engaging entertainment. Families enjoyed an energetic Zumba session, while Philippine folk dances and a cultural parade displayed the rich heritage of the homeland.

Food kiosks, sponsor booths, and a bazaar featuring local retailers were spread throughout the sprawling venue, offering diverse options and interactive experiences for attendees.

Filipino American hip hop artist, Nump, hyped the crowd up with his energetic presence onstage.

The day’s festivities culminated in the TFC 30 Happy Hour, with the exceptional father-and-son tandem of Gary and Gab Valenciano. The hour began with TFC’s 30th Anniversary Theme Song, “Always At Home with You,” followed by the crowd’s enthusiastic chants of “Gary V! Gary V! Gary V!”

Gary’s grand entrance led to an electrifying performance of “Eto Na Naman” and “Shout for Joy.” He paid tribute to overseas Filipinos with “Galing ng Pilipino,” TFC’s 20th Anniversary Theme Song.

A heartwarming moment ensued when Gary performed “Babalik Ka Rin” and brought his son, Gab Valenciano, to the stage for a dynamic duet of “Shake It Off.” The duo continued to wow the audience with “Look in Her Eyes” and an energetic “Arise Medley” (Hataw Na, Wag Mo Na Sanang Isipin, You Got Me Working, Di Bale Nalang). Gary’s soulful renditions of “I Will Be Here” and “Warrior is a Child” concluded the performance, moving many in the audience to tears.

Clemente “Jonjon” Logronio, President and Chairperson of the Board of Philippine Kalayaan Houston, expressed gratitude for the community’s enthusiastic participation and the support from various organizations that made the event a success. Highlights from the event can be seen here.
