Sky Angkor Airlines has added a new Phnom Penh-Guangzhou service, operating the route three times weekly with an Airbus A320. The addition brings the total number of carriers flying the corridor to five, alongside China Southern Airlines, Air Cambodia, Cambodia National Airlines and Spring Airlines, with the group together offering as many as nine daily return flights between the two cities. The route operates out of Techo International Airport, the 2,600-hectare facility in Kandal Province that replaced the former Phnom Penh International Airport as the country’s main aviation gateway in September 2025.
Route Economics And Regional Context
Guangzhou is already one of the busiest international destinations from Phnom Penh, and the entry of a fifth operator points to sustained demand on the corridor rather than a speculative launch. Sky Angkor Airlines, originally established as a joint venture between Korean and Cambodian investors and rebranded from Skywings Asia Airlines in 2014, has built a network weighted toward Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Changsha, Chengdu and Xiamen, alongside long-standing routes to Seoul and Bangkok.
The route’s timing places it within Cambodia’s broader push to diversify inbound air links following the opening of Techo International Airport, which is designed to handle significantly higher passenger volumes than its predecessor and to support the country’s tourism and trade ties with China, currently Cambodia’s largest source market for visitor arrivals and investment.
Competitive Positioning
With four carriers already serving Phnom Penh-Guangzhou, Sky Angkor’s entry increases capacity on a route where demand has historically supported multiple daily frequencies. The move also reflects Sky Angkor’s strategy of expanding its China network from its Techo hub, complementing its existing base of operations at Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport.
