Senator Loren Legarda on Wednesday said the Philippine creative sector generated PHP1.94 trillion in value and 7.51 million jobs in 2024.

Citing data from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Legarda noted that the industry’s contribution grew from PHP1.72 trillion and 7.26 million jobs in 2023, now accounting for 7.3 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“These numbers show that Filipino talent is powering industries, livelihoods, and innovation at scale,” Legarda said in observance of Philippine Creative Industries Month this September.

“From culture to commerce, creativity drives the change,” she added.

Legarda, co-author of Republic Act No. 11904 or the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, said the growth proves how investing in creativity leads to stronger communities and more resilient livelihoods.

She highlighted the National Arts and Craft Fair as a platform that links artisans to local and international buyers.

The fair gathered over 250 exhibitors last year, offering opportunities for communities to showcase heritage crafts while sustaining jobs.

This year’s Philippine Creative Industries Month, with the theme “We Are a Creative Nation,” comes ahead of NACF 2025, which will run from Oct. 23 to 29 at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall in Mandaluyong City. (PNA)
