Riyadh Air, the airline arm of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, began carrying passengers only in June 2026 with its first flight to London. The Kuala Lumpur launch is described by the carrier as a year-round rather than seasonal commitment, distinguishing it from the airline’s summer-only Malaga service, which runs from July 14 to September 8.
The route operates three times weekly aboard a Boeing 787-9 configured with four cabins, from lie-flat Business Elite through Business, Premium Economy and Economy. The outbound flight, RX0863, departs Riyadh in the late evening and arrives in Kuala Lumpur the following morning, while the return service, RX0864, departs Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon.
The launch coincides with rapid fleet growth. Riyadh Air received its fifth Boeing 787-9 as the Kuala Lumpur, Malaga and Dhaka routes were added, with a sixth aircraft due shortly after. By early August 2026, the carrier’s network is set to span eight destinations, including London, Cairo, Dubai, Jeddah, Madrid, Manchester, Malaga and Kuala Lumpur.
Strategic Positioning
For Malaysian travelers, the new route offers a one-stop connection through Riyadh to points in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. For Saudi passengers, it provides a direct link into Southeast Asia’s leisure and business travel market. Company statements tied the launch to Riyadh Air’s stated ambition of connecting Riyadh to more than 100 destinations worldwide by 2030, part of the carrier’s role in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 aviation strategy.
