Petroliam Nasional Berhad’s LNG marketing arm, Petronas LNG Ltd., has signed a new sale and purchase agreement with Shizuoka Gas Co., Ltd. to supply approximately 0.84 million metric tonnes of LNG annually over a seven-year period commencing in 2032. The signing ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur and brought together Datuk Adif Zulkifli, Petronas’ Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Gas and Maritime Business, and Yoshitake Matsumoto, Shizuoka Gas’ Representative Director and President.
The agreement coincided with the 30th anniversary of the first LNG cargo Petronas delivered to Shizuoka Gas, a relationship the companies characterized as having evolved alongside the growth of Japan’s LNG market. Zulkifli said the deal reflects three decades of mutual trust and reaffirmed Petronas’ commitment to delivering flexible LNG solutions through its global supply portfolio.
Beyond the volume commitment, the two firms said they plan to expand their relationship past a traditional buyer-seller arrangement to include collaboration on decarbonization initiatives across the LNG value chain, though neither side has yet detailed specific projects or timelines. Shizuoka Gas, founded in 1910 and headquartered in Shizuoka, Japan, has received more than 200 cargoes of Malaysian LNG since its first delivery in 1996.
Publicly available details on the agreement remain limited to the companies’ joint statement, and neither party disclosed pricing terms, contract value, or the specific supply source within Petronas’ portfolio.
