Laguna Taps Faith Tourism To Boost Local Economy

Laguna officially opened its doors to faith-based travelers on Saturday with the launch of the Laguna Pilgrimage Tourism Program at the National Shrine of San Antonio de Padua in Pila, home to the patron saint of lost items.

The program aimed to position Laguna as a premier pilgrimage destination by highlighting the province’s rich heritage, historic churches, and spiritual landmarks.

“There are many stories we can draw from our local traditions and devotions,” Governor Sol Aragones said in Filipino, adding that her background as a television reporter strengthened her belief in the power of storytelling.

Beyond promoting religious sites, the initiative also supports local products and enterprises across towns and cities, providing livelihood opportunities for tourism workers and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

A video presentation showcasing various churches offered participants a glimpse of the province’s traditions and devotional practices.

Meanwhile, various stakeholders, including tour operators, tourism officers, and local leaders, expressed full support and commitment to the program as a potential driver to stimulate the economy and strengthen community involvement in welcoming pilgrims.

The Laguna Tourism, Culture, Arts and Trade Office is set to hold a seminar-workshop for tourism officers from all 24 municipalities and six cities on Nov. 24-26 to craft the program’s framework. (PNA)
