The local government unit (LGU) here, through its Municipal Agriculture Office, has started distributing fertilizers to 800 registered rice farmers for this year’s main cropping season.
“This initiative is fully funded by the local government unit as it aims to boost rice productivity and support local farmers in reducing production costs,” Mayor Mary Chrislyn Abadilla said in an interview Tuesday.
Prices of commercial fertilizer in the region range from PHP1,590 to PHP2,400.
In support of farmers and to help them cope with rising prices of various agricultural inputs, the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the provincial government are also assisting farmers’ organizations and individuals through the continuous implementation of its “Agri ka Dito” program, where a hotline number is open for all registered farmers and fisherfolk to call or text for assistance.
Billions of pesos worth of quick assistance to farmers and fisherfolk here were already dispatched from pre-planting to marketing, to produce more through technology and mechanization, and improve irrigation to maximize their income.
To avail of more services and assistance, farmers and fisherfolk who have yet to receive any form of assistance from the government may call 0916-4419914 or 0969-2905489; e-mail agrikadito.in@gmail.com; or visit the Provincial Agriculture Office in Barangay 2 here or the Sustainable Development Center at the provincial capitol.
