The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 13 (Caraga Region) distributed learning kits to 350 vulnerable children this week to support their education.
In a statement Thursday, the agency said the distribution on Nov. 11-12 benefited children at GESU Eucharistico Children’s, Inc. in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte and Gacub Elementary School in Carmen, Surigao del Sur.
“The distribution of the kits is part of our initiative to support school children through programs that are responsive to literacy, family engagement, and holistic child development,” the DSWD-13 said.
The children are beneficiaries of Project Bahandi, which provides safe homes for abandoned, neglected, and abused children. Learning kits included paper, pencils, erasers, crayons, and sharpeners.
Guardian Divina, 38, from Buenavista, whose child received a kit, thanked the government for its continuing support.
“She was very happy upon receiving the learning kits, and it sparked her interest in studying and pursuing her schooling,” Divina said in a phone interview.
The DSWD-13 said it continues to coordinate with schools and local governments to expand the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program across the region. (PNA)
