The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) continued distributing capital funds to various associations in the area, handing over PHP5.2 million during a series of activities last week.

The funding release is part of the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which aims to empower community groups by establishing sustainable income sources and improving their quality of life.

A total of 12 SLP associations from Surigao City and the towns of San Benito and Claver in Surigao del Norte, as well as San Jose in Dinagat Islands, benefited from the fund dispensation.

In Surigao City, nine SLP groups received PHP3.75 million in capitalization from the DSWD-13. Additionally, one group in San Benito received PHP420,000, and another in Claver received PHP45,000 in funding.

In Dinagat Islands, the Reservist Matinabangon SLP Association also received PHP600,000 in capital to support their livelihood activities in the province.

Meanwhile, the city government of Surigao also welcomed the support of the DSWD-13 to its SLP associations. “This grant supports 229 members from different barangays to start or grow projects like marine and food processing, egg production, and retailing,” the city information office said in a separate statement Monday.
