The municipal government of Mawab in Davao de Oro is intensifying its disaster preparedness measures to ensure faster and more coordinated emergency response.
During an interview on Thursday, Mayor Myrill Apit said she has instructed the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to complete a detailed Risk Communication Plan to improve information sharing before, during, and after disasters.
“This initiative is a crucial step in protecting both lives and property during potential disaster events,” Apit said, citing the need to expand early warning systems and rescue operations to the municipality’s most remote areas.
The plan will create clearer communication channels among responders, barangay officials, and residents, especially in high-risk and remote communities.
She also said that the MDRRMO is updating and standardizing emergency response protocols to allow the faster deployment of resources during earthquakes, landslides, floods, and other natural hazards.
“Our priority is the safety of our people,” Apit said.
The local government is also assessing its existing disaster response equipment and preparing additional tools and vehicles to support rapid mobilization.
“We want to be ready and equipped so that we can respond immediately and prevent casualties should a natural disaster occur,” she said.
The enhanced plans and protocols are expected to be implemented in coordination with barangays and partner agencies in the coming months. (PNA)
