DA-Cordillera: Enough Vegetables For Christmas Season

The Department of Agriculture in the Cordillera region (DA-Cordillera) assured sufficient highland vegetable supplies for the holiday season, despite recent typhoons.

DA-Cordillera Regional Executive Director Jennilyn Dawayan said Tuesday that farmers replanted quickly after Super Typhoon Uwan last month, with new crops ready for harvest.

“We have ample supply of vegetables because many have already planted and there are no reports of insufficiency of supply,” Dawayan said.

She acknowledged transport as a key challenge, noting the agency is strengthening “food lane certification” to help traders’ trucks use priority lanes and avoid traffic delays for perishable goods.

While prices spiked after the typhoon, they have stabilized.

Dawayan said the DA expects quick response funds for storm damage to be released soon, allowing interventions by early 2026.

She also said the agency can assist farmers needing trucks to transport commodities. (PNA)
