The local government of Opol in Misamis Oriental announced on Tuesday it will begin the construction of the PHP100-million seaside boulevard project as early by January 2026.
In an interview, Mayor Jayfrancis Bago said the project is funded by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, after it was approved by the Northern Mindanao Regional Development Council.
“This project will boost tourism and strengthen our local economy, as more investors will likely come in,” Bago said.
He said the existing Boardwalk will be completely demolished to make accommodate a new project.
He said the redevelopment aims to transform the seaside area fronting the municipal hall into a modern coastal park with dedicated parking spaces, an events center, and a lighted fountain.
The major upgrade will require reclaiming more than two hectares of land, marking a significant expansion of the town’s premier coastal attraction.
Bago said the soon-to-rise Opol Boulevard is envisioned to be one of the most beautiful and modern tourism infrastructures in Mindanao.
Situated near the soon-to-be-upgraded Opol Fishport and a row of seafood restaurants, the site is only 30 minutes away from Cagayan de Oro City and less than an hour from Laguindingan International Airport, making it a strategic destination for tourists. (PNA)
