A Jungle Resort’s Next Chapter
Club Med Cherating opened as the group’s first resort in Asia and remains, according to the company, the only property in the region built around a self-contained jungle within the resort grounds. The upcoming renovation will preserve that natural setting while upgrading accommodation, public spaces and guest facilities as the resort transitions to an all-inclusive format.
Five new signature experiences are planned as part of the redesign: the Jungle Express transport service running through the property’s forest, guided nature trails, a cliffside climbing experience, farm-to-table dining at the Rembulan gourmet club, and a firefly mangrove cruise. The overhaul will be carried out under Club Med’s Happy to Care sustainability programme, with the company stating it intends to retain the resort’s existing low-density footprint and protect local biodiversity during construction.
Farewell Season Precedes The Closure
Ahead of the October 11 closure, Club Med will host a series of farewell activities beginning in mid-August, including a weekly street market, sports challenges, a resort memory wall and charity auctions featuring memorabilia from the property’s history. The final auction is scheduled for October 8, 2026, with proceeds directed to charity.
Rachael Harding, chief executive officer for Southeast Asia and Pacific at Club Med, said Cherating “holds a special place in our history as our first home in Asia,” describing the renovation as opening “a new chapter for this iconic destination” that will create what she called “a more sophisticated yet deeply natural escape.” The company has not yet disclosed a reopening date or investment figure for the project.
