Provincial government employees and other stakeholders will converge in the upland barangay of Sinundolan, San Remigio, to plant 2,000 fruit-bearing seedlings to mark the “Pista kang Kagubatan” in Antique on June 26.

The annual activity is mandated under Provincial Ordinance No. 2015-109, designating every last Friday of June for the tree-planting activity, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Vivian Marfil said.

“We are encouraging provincial government employees and those others willing to join in the tree planting activity to bring at least two fruit-bearing seedlings that they could plant in the area,” Marfil said in an interview.

Among the seedlings they target to plant are jackfruit, mabolo or velvet apple, castañas, and duhat or black plum.

With the yearly activity, they hoped to develop the six to seven-hectare area into a micro watershed that will serve as a year-round source of water for the community.

Last year, they planted 1,500 seedlings in the same barangay. (PNA)
