The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Abra’s capital town Bangued has listed additional 1,000 voters, bringing the number of registered voters for the Nov. 2, 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to 35,500 as of March 30.

“We have 1,075 registrants and one-third of them are SK voters,” lawyer Gustavo Dalen, municipal election officer, said in a radio interview Tuesday.

He said the registrants from Jan. 1 to March 30 this year have been approved during the last Election Registration Board (ERB) meeting.

Dalen said the figure has offset the more than 500 delisted voters from the town’s official list, a development which he said is significant for a small town.

Dalen said the latest list of voters has also been cleared of deceased persons and those who have transferred to other places.

He said youth voters are actively involved in governance.

“Senior officials are pushing the Sangguniang Kabataan to learn how to manage their barangays so that when their turn comes, they would know how to manage their barangays,” he added.

Proof of the youth’s active participation, Dalen said, is the complete roster of SK officials in 30 of the 31 barangays, with the remaining one lacking only one kagawad (councilor).

“They have a quorum and we are happy that they are again coming out to register, ready to take part in the next election,” he said.

Dalen urged others to visit the Comelec offices before the registration deadline in Abra.

“We are done with the offsite registration, but we are scheduling an offsite registration for persons with disabilities,” he added. (PNA)
