Vietnam Electricity (EVN) reported that national electricity production and imports reached 297.4 billion kWh in the first ten months of 2026, up 9.8% from the same period in 2025, with October alone totaling 31.58 billion kWh. The figures, published on November 4, 2026, show coal-fired plants supplying about half of system output and set out the scale of grid construction EVN carried out during the period.

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) said total electricity production and imports across Vietnam’s power system reached 297.4 billion kWh in the first ten months of 2026, an increase of 9.8% compared with the same period in 2025. Production and imports for October 2026 reached 31.58 billion kWh, a 14.3% increase from October 2025.
The October growth rate was higher than the 9.2% year-on-year increase EVN reported for September 2026, when monthly production and imports reached 29.97 billion kWh. EVN had reported nine-month cumulative output of 265.79 billion kWh in early October, up 9.3%.
Publicly available details on the ten-month release remain limited. Reporting on the figures to date consists of a single summary of EVN data and does not include peak demand, commercial electricity sales, or a breakdown of October output by source.
Generation Mix
Coal-fired power was the largest source in the ten-month period, generating 147.78 billion kWh, or 49.7% of the total. Earlier EVN data for the first nine months placed coal at 132.63 billion kWh, or 49.9% of system output.
Hydropower produced 73.39 billion kWh, equal to 24.7% of the total. Renewable energy sources generated 40.72 billion kWh, or 13.7%, of which solar power accounted for 24.04 billion kWh and wind power 15.37 billion kWh.
Gas-fired generation reached 23.28 billion kWh, representing 7.8% of the total. Imported electricity totaled 11.77 billion kWh, or 4% of system supply.
Grid Infrastructure
Electricity transmitted across the national grid was estimated at 239.23 billion kWh over the ten months, an increase of 11.2% year on year.
During the period, EVN commenced construction on 150 grid projects and commissioned 137 projects at voltage levels from 110kV to 500kV. EVN had reported commissioning 131 grid works in the first three quarters of the year.
The ten-month data were released days after Vietnam reduced its average retail electricity price by 2% to more than VND2,159.9 per kWh, excluding value-added tax, effective November 1, 2026, according to EVN.
