Wise has expanded QR payments and added customisable eSIM plans to its app, with customers in Singapore and Malaysia among the first globally to get both features from October 6, 2026. The QR payment service now covers more than 50 destinations.
QR Network Coverage
Wise customers can already pay with PayNow QR in Singapore and DuitNow QR in Malaysia. The app also connects directly to QR Ph in the Philippines, Swiss QR-bill in Switzerland and Qvik in Hungary.
Through a partnership with Ant International’s Alipay+, eligible customers can scan supported merchant QR codes in markets including mainland China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Cambodia. In mainland China, eligible travellers can pay at supported merchants without a Chinese bank card, a local mobile number or a separate app.
On its product page, Wise says customers can pay from any of the more than 40 currencies they hold, including Singapore dollars and US dollars, at the mid-market exchange rate with transparent fees.
Customisable eSIM Plans
The eSIM service offers standard regional plans covering more than 150 destinations. The customisable plans let customers choose their own data allowance and duration. These plans are available to customers in Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, the European Economic Area, the US, Canada, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand.
Customers install the eSIM once and buy later plans through the Wise app. Data use begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network at the destination, and Wise refunds purchased data plans that have not been used.
Company Statements
SK Saraogi, Wise’s Asia Pacific CEO, said the feature was built so that travellers do not have to deal with a different payment system in each destination. He said they should not need to set up a new wallet or find an ATM for small everyday purchases abroad. Yen Ting Chiam, Wise’s Malaysia Country Manager, said the QR feature builds on the Wise Card. She said it was designed to reduce the need to juggle multiple e-wallets or find money changers when paying local vendors overseas.
Wise has not disclosed eSIM pricing, transaction fees specific to the expanded QR service, or user adoption figures, and publicly available information on these points remains limited.
