The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga (DSWD-13) has replenished its stock of family food packs (FFPs) in three warehouses in Dinagat Islands on Saturday.
At around 9:30 p.m. Friday, three 10-wheeler wing vans loaded with 5,410 FFPs departed from the DSWD-13 field office in Butuan City.
“The FFPs are intended to replenish the relief stockpiles in the warehouses in the towns of Cagdianao, Dinagat, and San Jose,” DSWD-13 said in a statement.
The agency said the fresh supplies will ensure essential food assistance remains readily available.
“This proactive measure ensures that DSWD-Caraga remains ready to respond, with food packs available and assistance within reach when families need it most,” the statement read.
Dinagat Islands was placed under a state of calamity earlier this week due to a severe water crisis brought by the prolonged dry spell.
Water rationing has begun in several towns to ensure a steady supply of potable water for affected residents.
The provincial government has also started drilling operations and installing solar pumps in areas with sufficient water sources.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended the declaration of a state of calamity, noting that around 18,000 residents in the island province are at risk due to the worsening water crisis. (PNA)
