Electoral Board (EB) members who will serve in the special polls on Aug. 29 in the Fourth Legislative District of Cavite are set to receive up to PHP12,000, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Saturday.
In Resolution No. 11257, the Commission en banc said the honorarium for EB chairpersons will be PHP12,000; EB members, PHP11,000; and EB support staff, PHP5,000.
“The chairperson and members of the EB shall be entitled to compensation depending on their designation, which is inclusive of honoraria, travel, communication and meal allowances,” it said.
The honoraria and allowances shall be paid within 15 calendar days from the date of the special election, the Comelec said.
The EB chairperson and members will also get a fixed service credit of 10 calendar days.
There are 1,308 clustered precincts in the Cavite special polls, with each to be manned by an EB composed of a chairperson, poll clerk and a third member.
Earlier, the Comelec said the local government of Dasmariñas City has donated PHP50 million to cover a portion of the budget allocated for the honorarium of poll workers amounting to more than PHP76 million.
The special polls will be held to fill the vacancy left by former Francisco Barzaga Jr., who was removed from office in June due to “disorderly behavior, conduct unbecoming of a member, and violations of the House Code of Conduct.”
The five candidates running for the congressional seat are Raul Rex Mangubat, Marvin Dupal-ag, Leysander Ordenes, Jacinto Frani Jr., and Dasmariñas Mayor Jennifer Barzaga, the mother of the expelled lawmaker.
Mayor Barzaga is on her third and last term. She previously completed the maximum nine years on 2007 to 2016.
She was then elected as Fourth District representative in 2016 to 2019, a post also held by her late husband, Elpidio Barzaga Sr. (PNA)
