The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro inaugurated three agricultural infrastructure projects worth PHP12.9 million at Lamdag Farm in Barangay Pasian, Monkayo, on Monday, including a PHP10-million facility to help revive the hog industry from African swine fever (ASF).
The Swine Multiplier and Technology Demonstration Farm, funded by the Department of Agriculture under the INSPIRE Program, is a nationwide initiative to rebuild the hog industry devastated by ASF.
The province also inaugurated a PHP2.9-million greenhouse facility with shading and irrigation systems for climate-resilient crop production, and a new water system to support Lamdag Farm’s operations.
“These projects are expected to significantly contribute to the continuous development of agriculture in the province through modern technology, stronger production, and added livelihood support for farmers in Davao de Oro,” the provincial government said.
On the same day, Davao de Oro farmers received various agricultural inputs. A total of 480 durian seedlings, 191 farm tools, 142 cans of vegetable seeds, 400 sacks of corn, 48 sacks of fertilizer, 40 sacks of fry mash booster, and 15,000 tilapia fingerlings were distributed to 1,490 beneficiaries.
In addition, 386 farmers received financial assistance through crop insurance from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).
“This support for farmers and fishers will help them recover faster from the impact of the recent shearline on their livelihoods,” the statement added. (PNA)
