A total of 40 households composed of 161 residents in remote Sitio Nagtengna, Barangay San Marcelino, will benefit from a new PHP3 million water system inaugurated on Wednesday.

The project, funded by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), will also irrigate about 10 hectares of agricultural crops, according to NIA Ilocos Norte Manager Joselito De Vera.

“We are so happy for the turnover of the water system project. It shows that the government continues to listen and respond to our needs,” De Vera said during the ceremony.

He urged beneficiaries to take good care of the project, noting that accessible potable water is a gift to the community.

Mayor Joemelle Go Sy thanked NIA for approving the project, saying it is a big help for farmers and villagers.

“Water is life,” she said.

Villagers led by barangay captain Noli Calaoagan expressed gratitude, saying they no longer need to fetch water from afar for drinking, bathing, and cooking, while also enabling them to cultivate more crops. (PNA)
