The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday urged residents of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to sign up as voters.
Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia made the call ahead of Tuesday’s deadline for the voter registration period for the Sept. 14 BARMM polls and the Nov. 2 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
“This is 2 in 1. We have the Bangsamoro (Parliamentary Elections), and the BSKE. Be a part of the change. Let our voices be heard,” he said in a Viber message.
Garcia said there would be “no more extension” of the voter sign-up deadline.
Based on poll body figures, the running total of registrants in the region is 132,178, from Feb. 9 to March 28.
Of the number, 66,759 are male and 64,515 are female.
BARMM is composed of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Tawi-Tawi and Special Geographic Area. (PNA)
