The City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO) reported Friday that it has provided free anti-rabies vaccinations to 163,355 cats and dogs, benefiting 76,027 pet owners here in 2025.
As a core part of its Animal Health and Welfare Program, Dr. Gay Pallar, the acting city veterinarian, said the vaccinations are offered free of charge.
She noted that 1,215 cats and dogs were also spayed or neutered at no cost last year as part of the program.
“To avail of the free castration service, the public is advised to coordinate with their barangay officials,” Pallar said, adding that they required barangays to gather 30–50 cats and dogs for castration, then submit a request to the CVO office for scheduling.
The CVO’s welfare program also includes a rehabilitation and adoption program that began last year, during which 346 cats and dogs were rehabilitated and 26 were successfully placed in new homes.
Pallar called on residents to be responsible pet owners and have their pets vaccinated against rabies.
“We remind the Dabawenyos not to abandon their pets on the streets. They need to ensure they can provide for and take care of them,” she said. (PNA)
