The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) is set to turn over 500 units of computer tablets to Iloilo City next week, a local official said Wednesday.
“This is a generous donation from PAGCOR of 500 tablets for our learners, especially right now that we are encountering natural calamities, such as typhoons and earthquakes. As the Department of Education adopts the alternative mode of learning, we really need tablets for our learners, primarily for our ICCC (Iloilo City Community College) students,” City Local Housing Office head Jason Millare said during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (city council).
He said the donation has no cost to the local government, but it has a timeline to follow, otherwise, it will be donated to other local governments.
“They intend to donate on Nov. 17,” he said, as he convinced the council to approve a resolution for the city government to sign the deed of donation.
Reinhart Pahila from the City Mayor’s Office said they have yet to secure from the administrator of the ICCC the guidelines for the distribution of the gadgets.
“Mayor Raisa Treñas will publish the necessary guidelines for the public to know the qualifications to avail of the donation,” he said.
The transfer of the tablets to the students will also be provided in the guidelines.
The council granted Treñas the authority to sign the deed of donation and acceptance. (PNA)
