The Iligan City government has continued with its upgrade and modernization plans that would improve rescue and disaster response.

On Wednesday, Mayor Frederick Siao led the turnover of a Type 1 ambulance, costing about PHP1.5 million, to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Iligan City Fire Station.

“This ambulance will reinforce the needed help for our firefighters, especially if there are times our Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (ICDRRMO) might be busy responding to other emergency calls,” he said.

Siao said that under his term, he has committed to providing additional support to the BFP with allowances and additional budget from the local government.

Likewise, the ICDRRMO is also undergoing enhancements in the modernization of its equipment and the training of responders following its recent assessment of the Cebu earthquake incident.

Armien Aloro, chief of the CDRRMO, said additional closed-circuit televisions and specialized drones for monitoring have been requested for the upgrade, while responders and volunteers will be provided with a “Resilience 101” special program. (PNA)
