The local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office here will open at least two satellite voter registration sites each day from Aug. 1 to 10, in addition to its main office, to accommodate registrants, especially those eligible for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

“We will try to maximize output, particularly for the SK, given that we only have 10 days,” Comelec Baguio election officer, lawyer John Paul Martin said in a message to the Philippine News Agency on Thursday.

He said they are targeting at least 200 registrants daily, or around 2,000 total during the registration period.

Martin said the focus will be on first-time registrants aged 15 and above to boost SK registration.

“Kung hindi man matuloy ang Dec. 1 BSKE (Barangay and SK eletion), hindi masasayang yung mga nagpa-rehistrong SK kasi magiging regular voter naman sila in the future (In case the Dec. 1 BSKE will not proceed, the effort will not be wasted since these youth registrants will soon become regular voters) he explained.

Martin said planned satellite locations include Fairview Village and Saint Louis University Navy Base; NIIT and Irisan National High School; Pacdal and West Quirino Hill; University of the Cordilleras High School and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs Office; Pinsao Proper and Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO); Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Baguio City National High School (BCNHS); Saint Louis University Navy Based and BCNHS; Fort Del Pilar and Sto. Tomas Proper, aside from their office at Governor Pak Road.

“We’ve always prioritized bringing Comelec services closer to the public, which is why we set up satellite registration areas across the city,” Martin said. (PNA)
