The provincial government of Dinagat Islands launched its “People’s Day” on Monday, coinciding with the oathtaking ceremony of local officials at the provincial capitol in San Jose town.
Reelected Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. led the opening of the activity, joined by other top provincial officials and representatives from various government agencies.
“The People’s Day signifies the continuing services of the provincial leadership to the people of Dinagat Islands,” Demerey said.
Residents received a range of free services from national agencies during the event, including medical checkups, physical therapy sessions, and general consultations provided by the Department of Health.
The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. also offered medical assistance and facilitated membership and Konsultasyong Sulit Tama (Konsulta) registrations.
The National Irrigation Administration sold rice at PHP35 per kilo, a key offering that benefited many, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD).
“I was able to purchase five kilos,” Bantilan, a PWD, said. “I still have extra money to buy fish and fresh vegetables from the Kadiwa ng Pangulo.”
Additionally, the Department of Agriculture and the Provincial Agriculture Office handed out vegetable seeds.
“We are thankful to the various agencies and the more than a thousand residents who availed of the services,” Demerey said.
He said the event underscored the importance of continued collaboration among local leaders and government agencies to uplift the province’s residents.
In an earlier activity, Mindanao Development Authority chairperson Secretary Leo Tereso Magno led the oathtaking of the officials elected on May 12.
Vice Governor Jade Ecleo, Lone District Rep. Arlene Bag-ao, and members of the provincial board also took their oaths. (PNA)
