The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed PHP1.9 billion in aid through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, benefitting 443,101 individuals in Central Visayas as of Nov. 25, 2024.

DSWD-7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero said on Wednesday that PHP936.6 million of the total was allocated for medical assistance to 209,209 recipients across the region.

“We have assisted individuals by referring them to partners, Malasakit Centers of public hospitals, walk-ins to the Crisis Intervention Section or the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) office in the provinces, satellite offices, and off-site payouts with local government units,” Lucero said.

AICS extends support for medical, burial, transportation, education, food, and other emergency needs. Assistance is provided via direct cash, guarantee letters, or family food packs.

Lucero said funds must be used solely by recipients, with strict prohibition against commissions, deductions, or other unauthorized transactions.

“During payouts, we remind beneficiaries that the aid is for their use only and cannot be transferred or reduced by intermediaries,” she said.

Recipients must present valid identification and supporting documents, such as a case summary from local social welfare offices.

Medical assistance can be availed per hospital admission, while other support is accessible every three months.

DSWD also partners with pharmacies, hospitals, and NGOs to ensure assistance is efficiently delivered. (PNA)
