A total of 1,722 tricycle drivers from the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) received Cash Relief Assistance (CRA) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 11 (Davao Region) during the April 8-9 payout.
In a statement on Friday, the local government said 1,000 qualified drivers received PHP5,000 each on April 8, and 722 beneficiaries got the same assistance the following day.
“The program aims to aid tricycle drivers who have been significantly affected by the continuing fuel crisis, which has sharply increased daily operational expenses while limiting their income,” the city government said.
The initiative is part of the national government’s response to cushion vulnerable sectors from the impact of fuel price hikes driven by the conflict in the Middle East.
The CRA falls under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, designed to help public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers cope with rising fuel costs and support their families’ basic needs.
Meanwhile, DSWD-11 reported that 1,653 tricycle drivers in Digos City, Davao del Sur will also receive the same assistance during the distribution on Friday.
The rollout continues in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, and Digos City, with Mati City scheduled for April 14.
The distribution of cash aid for municipalities in the region is set for April 16.
In a statement, DSWD-11 Director Rhuelo Aradanas clarified that local government units (LGUs) identified the beneficiaries, while DSWD handled the disbursement.
He added that those not included in the initial list may still benefit from a second tranche. (PNA)
